“Nature. Nurture. Neuro. Negro.”
Exhibited in MCAD Gallery for 2024 Jerome Fellowship Exhibition, Minneapolis, MN
Black girls navigate a complex journey from girlhood to womanhood, often making profound sacrifices along the way. In Nature. Nurture. Neuro. Negro., I explore the intricate intersections of generational cycles, systemic challenges, and the search for harmony within disorder. Conceived during my unexpected transition into motherhood, these works delve deep into questions of inheritance, identity, sexuality, Blackness and neurodivergence, offering both reflection and revelation. I create a space that celebrates the complexity of Black femininity while investigating themes of cycles, memory, overindulgence, and the creation of havens away from reality.
